Lunch at Jaleo

I took Julia for a lunch at Jaleo on Tuesday for Spanish Tapas. We had the Restaurant Week Special where you get to pick 3 Tapas each and a dessert for $20.09 each. This is the Sangria, Ensalada campera tapa & Sopa de cebolla y tomillo con queso Idiazábal. My favorite of everything we had was the soup and the poached egg underneath the crouton was especially nice. More to come...

New Link --- Airhead --- Chris Alvanas Blog --- He has a HDR video up today

Hoping the sun breaks, and we go from mostly cloudy to partly cloudy for my trip to the National Cathedral.

HDR Biten AGAIN!!

Last night I went to the Photoshop User Group meeting at CDIA that Chris Alvanas hosted on HDR. I knew I had seen his work before, and after a little research this morning I found it in Nikon World Magazine. The PUG meeting was a 2 hour discussion on technique where Chris walked the group through his workflow and how he has achieved the best results for his work. Chris does lean a bit on the more illustrative type of HDR shots, but for effect. If you have followed my blog, you know I do like this effect. I did learn a new technique from him on using three layers with different blend modes that I will share another time, after I perfect. In the meantime go a check out his site. His HDR work is under the Edge menu.

Tomorrows forecast in DC, Partly cloudy and 59 degrees - I am going to grab my tripod and camera and get over to the Washington National Cathedral for some HDR inspiration. Dan? You up for it?

Lunch at Lauriol Plaza

I went to Adams Morgan on Friday to help my friend Judy Davis set up a blog. She was gracious enough to buy me lunch at Lauriol Plaza. Allison Dinner "incredible local food photographer" also joined us. Lunch was fantastic, I had Lamb Fajitas, and no I did not use the mint jelly.

I think I am all squared away on the recovery and back up situation. I added 1.75 TB's to my system for a full system back up and a redundant back up of my images and data. I just need to be more vigilant and check that they are doing what I have it set them up for.

Data Rescue PC

The cloning of the drive took about 35 hours, and it seems likely that most of the drive has been successfully saved. I went straight to the file I knew was corrupt (my 2008 end of year export) and it was there. So I am going to pull off what I need and then run the recovery. Have a good day and hopefully you never need this software, but just in case.

Alero on U Street

After walking a block or two past Ben's, we went into Alero for a Buffet. They have a typical buffet that you might find at a Mexican restaurant. This was the highlight for me, couple fried eggs atop a bean tostada and some sauce for heat and wash it down with a Tecate! The Texan in me was very, very happy.

When was the last time you checked your back up? I thought I was getting everything, I had a drive crash yesterday, only to find ou the Sync Toy had not been Syncing like I thought. Do yourself a favor check your backups. I am cloning the drive and hope to recover the data. I have mulitiple backups and all of my client work is also online and burned to DVD, so I am not freaking out. yet....

Ben's Chili Bowl

On Saturday, we took the kids to DC to try Ben's Chili Bowl and spend the day downtown. The line we encountered kept us walking down the street to seek out something quicker on U st. I know that it would have been worth the wait, but with the kids in tow, my first Ben's Half Smoke will have to wait.

Not shooting a lot lately, need to fix that! I need some inspiration.

Is it spring yet? I have the worst case of spring fever this year!

Any locals going to the Photoshop User Group at CDIA in Georgetown next Tuesday? The topic is HDR.

Of course I made it to the National Zoo this past Sunday. The weather was perfect! Although I do like a bit more green in the shots.

Snack

I was not feeling the greatest on Monday for a post, but after a good workout tonight, I made a snack, and said, "SELF go shoot it", I have been struggling for material lately, I know I want to shoot more food and mess with studio lighting scenarios. So this is D300, F5.6, ISO 200, 600 WS in a medium soft box high and to the left, fill on either side.
