Get over to Jason D. Moore Photography today for geographic composition that was posted today. The theme for the images was "Part of the whole". I shot this image last weekend for the theme. I am always in awe when I visit my dad at Arlington National Cemetery at the loss that is recorded here. I was in the Army back in the late 80's stationed at the Pentagon for 3 years and we use to do our PT runs in the cemetery. I never thought then that 2o years later I would be so profoundly sad at coming back to this place. Every one of those stones represent a part of a whole that is lost forever.

Walk
I have been digging into Dave Beckerman's site a lot this week. He has some short essays on his photography that are a great read and some truly inspiring images that make we wanna grab the camera and hit the streets in DC. Also got a link from SDuffy Photography , He is local in DC with some great shots of the area. Thanks Shawn. Last but not least Jeff, of PhotoWalkPro has a Photoshop list of sites that should keep me busy through the weekend. Lastly, a lil input wanted, Should I use the bigger image?

Little lunch @ Jonny R. in Georgetown
So we got out of the house and I was able to do some shooting yesterday. We started in Georgetown down by the water for a building on K street I needed to shoot. Then we made our way around M St and Wisconsin for a stroll. We must have ate our full, because then we made a stop at the zoo to make a round at the panda's. I have some edits to do. New images to post this week hopefully, I know the light was not the greatest, but I am going to run some with Photomatix and ReDynaMix and see what results I get.

Pigeon Eye View of Times Sq
Opened in CS3 as 8 bit Jpeg, used ReDynaMix. I was looking for a image for the masthead up top that I could add text to. All but a bit of sharpening was done with the filter. I used the curves and Color Equalizer for the final effect. Side note is that this printed excellent on Velvet Fine @ 13x19.

Its a HDR world
While doing my Saturday surfing I came across a great intro to HDR video over at PhotoWalkPro, Jeff does a excellent job explaining the first step to HDR glory in his first video tutorial. Over at CameraPorn there is a very detailed tutorial about how to do HDR without tonemapping.
There also seems to be a lot of haters when it comes to HDR, its amazing that with all of the methods there are, using such a simple tool to eekkk out what in most cases will be a unusable image is taking such a bad wrap. I say it again, I like it all! Does that mean I am printing them big and hanging them all over my house. No, but they are fun to look at. I guess I fall into a category that ALL art has a place. My favorite painting is a painted hand pressing on a piece of wood that my son did when he was 2. My bottom line on HDR. Fun to process and fun to look at, even if its just briefly = )
